“A routine is not a life”- Deliberate Luncher
Health & Well-Being
Worker burnout is becoming a global epidemic. We are living a life that is filled with a list of Do’s instead of Don’ts. We spend 90,000 hours of our life at work. This is time that we will never get back. Our time to spend with our family and friends is limited to evenings, vacations, and holidays. This leaves very little time to focus on self -care. According to a Gallup Survey (2017), more than 70% of Americans interviewed anonymously said that they are not happy with their jobs. If we take a look at health on the job, more that 70% (Harris Interactive) of Americans report that their job is stressful. Stress leads to several health conditions to include depression, anxiety, high blood pressure etc. There is a need to reduce the amount of stress that we experience every day!
Community
I ride the train into the city every morning. I am starting to realize that we are connected, but unconnected. Everyone is on their cell phones, faces down. There are no greetings of “good morning” or “how’s your day going”? There is a global loneliness epidemic. The massive “to do lists” of the day means that there is little time to meet new people, spread kindness, or build community. For working adults, the only time that we have a chance to volunteer or connect is during the evenings or weekends. There is an ample amount of opportunities to get involved and help others during the work day. For example, there are service needs within senior centers, community gardens, schools, etc. Project 1.5 helps bring people together.
